As a driver, you should be responsible for everything that happens on the road. Depending on the circumstances that occurred during the accident, you may go to jail if you were found to be guilty of the following:
1. Hit-and-run – When you leave the scene of the accident that you have caused. There are two types of hit-and-run, misdemeanor and felony. Misdemeanor hit-and-run means that you’ve created damage to property, felony hit-and-run implies that you’ve caused injury to another person.
2. Reckless driving – If you’re found to have caused the accident because of speeding, distracted driving, or failing to obey red lights or stop signs.
3. Driving Under the Influence (DUI) – If you’re found to have caused the accident because you were operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol which impaired your physical and mental faculties.
