San Jose police are seeking the motorist involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident on Thursday, August 27.
Accident Details
At approximately 7:15 a.m., dispatchers sent officers to the area of Clarice Drive and Huran Drive because of reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Authorities subsequently pronounced a 46-year-old San Jose female dead at the scene.
Police Locate Abandoned Vehicle
Law enforcement says that a maroon sedan ran up on the sidewalk, allegedly struck the pedestrian and sped off. Officers later found the car abandoned several blocks from the scene.
Authorities say it is possible that an area resident captured images of the fleeing motorist on a surveillance camera. Some area residents explained to ABC 7 News that speeding vehicles are a frequent problem in the neighborhood.
Although the investigation into this pedestrian fatality is ongoing, survivors of those killed in accidents often seek compensation in California’s civil courts. Wrongful death litigation often seeks monetary damages for various losses, including loss of companionship, pain-and-suffering and burial expenses.
However, in hit-and-run accidents, it is important for law enforcement to locate the perpetrator so that it becomes possible to either settle the matter with his or her insurer or to move forward with a civil lawsuit seeking monetary damages.
